J. Alfred's Story.
Born and enlisted Crewe. Son of Robert and Jane Long of 8, Denver Avenue, Crewe. His decomposed body was found in 15ft of water in Victoria Creek, East Float, of Birkenhead Dock. Served his time in the Carriage Department of Crewe Works, and was then a painter in Foden’s. Father had served during the Boer War, driving armoured trains. He is commemorated on the Crewe War Memorial as J. A. LONG.
