Alfred's Story.
EARLY LIFE
Alfred Leigh was born in Macclesfield in 1893, the son of Mary Jane and William Leigh. By 1911 the family had moved to 44 Princess St, Bollington.
Alfred married Elizabeth McQuiggan in 1914.
COMMEMORATION
Private Alfred Leigh has no known grave and is commemorated on panel ref. 76 to 78 on the Helles Memorial, Turkey. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission holds casualty details for Private Alfred Leigh, and he is listed on the Imperial War Museum’s Lives of the First World War website.
Locally, Private Alfred Leigh is commemorated on the Bollington (Palmerston St) and Bollington Parish war memorials.
