Percy's Story.
Born Coppenhall, enlisted Chester. Son of Enoch Radcliffe and Lavinia Latham of 80, Westminster Street, Crewe. Attended Edleston Road School. Prior to enlisting on September 3, 1914, was an apprentice fitter and jointmaker’s assistant in the Crewe North Steam Sheds. Embarked from Southampton for France on September 25, 1915. According to the war diary, 20 officers and 657 other rank went into the trenches on the night of July 2 and only 6 officers and 350 were left on July 4.
