Cyril's Story.
Cyril was born in Chester in 1896. He lived with his father Benjamin, a joiner, and his mother Alice at 39 Suffolk Street, Chester. He had a brother John & 4 sisters, Alice, Jane, Norah & Sylvia. By 1911 they were living at 7 Crewe Street. Cyril was a bootmaker's apprentice. They later moved to 47a Bridge Street.
He enlisted in Chester, originally into the Cheshire Regiment as private 32989. He was later transferred to the 14th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was killed in action on the 4th August 1917. He is buried at Artillery Wood Cemetery, Belgium. III B.14.

The death took place in action, early in August, of Private Cyril Lancelotte, son of Mr & Mrs Lancelotte of 47a Bridge Strret, Row, Chester. The deceased soldier was 21 years of age in March last, and was much respected by all who knew him. He joined a Cheshire battalion about 2 years ago, and was stationed at Birkenhead up to something like 3 months ago, when he went to the Front. Before joining the army he was employed at Stead & Simpson's Boot Stores at Chester. He was a Grosvenor St Johns school boy and belonged to the same church and Sunday School. He was a member of the same church and Sunday School. Much sympathy is felt for his parents and other members of the family in their great bereavement. The deceased soldier was a bright and cheerful young man, always most ready and willing to do a kind action, and his death will be lamented by numerous friends.
