Edmund's Story.
Born in 1880 at Macclesfield, son of bricklayer, Alfred and Eliza, (nee, Higginbotham) Hill, of, 26, Hobson Street. By 1901, the family were living at 36, Holly Street, Salford, most probably because of work for bricklayer Alfred. In the summer of 1908, Edmund married Hannah Watts at Macclesfield, and he, like his father was a bricklayer, they set up home at 2, House 1, Court Hobson Street, Macclesfield.
Edmund was conscripted into the army and was drafted to France. The battalion war diary reports, little, if no aggressive action during the month of May 1916. It refers to the battalion being in reserve at FLESSELLES, and on the 29th May it occupied billets at GORENFLOS before moving to the training area at ST RIQUIER. Edmund is recorded killed, Tuesday, 30 May 1916, aged 38 years.
The Cheshire Roll of Honour would like to thank H.A.G. Carlisle for the information on Edmund.
