Thomas's Story.

Thomas was born in the parish of St Paul's C of E Church, Stockport, the son of Albert Hazlehurst. The 1901 Census shows him, aged 15, working as a doubler in a cotton mill. In later life, he married and had three children (after the war, his wife had married a Mr Woolfenden and was living at 38 Emperor Street, Portwood). In September 1914, he enlisted in the army at Stockport joining one of the newly created "Service Battalions". On 3 July, he took part in an attack and was seriously wounded. He was evacuated from the front line and was being transferred to a Casualty Clearing Station when he died.
