George Heywood's Story.
George had been born in the parish of St Thomas' C of E Church, Stockport, the son of Daniel and Amelia. The family home was at 23 Shawcross Street in the Higher Hillgate area of the town. He enlisted into the army during September 1914. Apart from a few weeks service in France, the Battalion served in the Salonika theatre in Greece. George was killed at the Battle of Doiran. He has no known grave.
