Corporal Millington joined the RGA in 1914, when he transferred to the Cheshires and served about 17 months in garrison at Gibraltar. At Christmas 1916, he was drafted out to France, but did not reach the firing line, contracting pleurisy at the base. He returned to hospital in England, and was again sent to France in May of this year. On July 31st he was wounded in the leg by a shell, necessitating amputation immediately on arrival in hospital in England, on August 25, when his death took place the following day. He was buried with military honours on August 31.
Being a member of the Bromborough choir the service was fully choral, and the hymns “Jesu Lover of my Soul and “Forever with the Lord was Sung. The service was very impressive, being conducted by the Rev. A. Spafford, rector of the parish.
