KILLED BY A SNIPER

While Bringing in Wounded.

Mrs. Daly, 33, Brattan Road, has received word that her husband, Pte. J. Daly, R.W.F., was killed in action on April 23rd. She has had the following letter from his captain :- “I am indeed sorry to have to write and tell you that your husband was killed in action on the 23rd ult. As you probably know, he was a stretcher bearer. He was killed outright by a sniper when bringing in the wounded. The company had been in action the previous day, and your husband had been extraordinarily helpful in bringing in wounded. He met his death doing his duty very nobly. His body was brought back two miles and buried in a very pleasant spot with some other men who fell in action. We planted flowers on the grave and a cross was erected. Please accept my sympathy. We have soldiered a long time together out here.”

The late Pte. Daly was 35 years of age, and for a number of years coachman for Mr. Harvey, of Bidston. Previous to enlisting he was employed by Mr. Blackie, of Oxton.
