Birkenhead News 10 January 1917Son Missing
Father Victim of German Pirates.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ditchfield, of 50, Gorsefield Road, Birkenhead, are exceedingly anxious for their son, Private Ernest Ditchfield, of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, who has been missing since November 15th. Any information regarding him will be gratefully received by them. The young soldier, who was educated at Mersey Park School, joined shortly after the outbreak of war, and has seen much service.
Mr. Ernest Ditchfield, the father, is one of the best known stewards sailing out of the port of Liverpool. He has had personal experience of German “frightfulness,” for he was on the “City of Cairo” in the capacity of chief steward when that vessel was torpedoed. He is now on his way home.
