James's Story.

James Collier was born in Swinton, Lancashire in 1884. He lived as a boarder with Mr and Mrs Peers at 17, Moordale Road, Knutsford. He was a sorting clerk/telephonist. He married Sarah Ann and they lived at 41, Mount Street, Swinton.

He enlisted at Knutsford in the 74th Signal Company of the Royal Engineers, becoming Sapper no. 182734. James died of wounds on the 2nd November 1918 (just nine days before the armistice was signed) at the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station.
