Horace's Story.
Born on 18 September 1914, son of bread baker, Ernest and Edith, (nee, Pinches), Longden, of 256, Park Lane, Macclesfield. A family of eight children, Florence, Gwendoline, Margaret, William, Harry, John and Ernest.
Horace was educated at Athey Street School; he was then gainfully employed at Messrs Backhouse and Coppock Ltd. He joined the Forces at the end of 1939, and went abroad in 1942, taking part in the fighting in North Africa, where he was wounded but soon recovered. Horace was killed in action, Friday, 16 July 1943, fighting in Sicily, aged 28 years.
