John's Story.

Private John Cornes

Official notification has been received of the  death of Private John Cornes, Kings Shropshire Light Infantry. He was reported missing on July 14, and on Saturday his wife, who is domestic service in Nantwich, was informed by the War Office that he was killed in action. Private Cornes was the son of Mr. Cornes of Faddiley, Nantwich, farm labourer, in the employ of Mr. John Allwood, of Burland. He joined the Army shortly after the declaration of war and was at the time working as a wagoner for Mr. Hockenhull, of Baddiley. A brother, Private Hubert Cornes, in the same regiment was wounded 12 months ago.
