COLIN COPE 

News has been received that Sergeant Colin Cope, second son of the late Mr. Henry Cope and Mrs. Cope, 40, Cowfields, Nantwich, has been killed in action.

An officer of his company, in a letter to his mother, said Sergeant Cope was killed in a raid on the enemy’s lines after showing great bravery and devotion to duty. His body was recovered later and laid to rest behind the British lines. He was a man of cheerful disposition, and loved and respected by the officers and men of his company.

Sergeant Cope had served 13½ years in the Army, four of which he had fought at the front. When war broke out he was a time-expired man, returning from India. He had been twice wounded. His marriage was to have taken place in November, his leave having been granted.
