Charles's Story.

Charles was born in Stockport and is believed to have lived all his life in the town until he enlisted into the army in August 1914. The 1901 Census shows him working as a “hatter’s planker” but he later changed jobs and went to work at Messrs Joseph Rivett’s Mills as a gasser. He was married to Florence and they lived at 1 Pendlebury Street, Newbridge lane, Stockport, with their two children. After the war, Florence had moved to 5 Churchgate, Stockport. Charles was killed during fighting around Ovillers during the Battle of the Somme.
