Samuel Neil Bennett, was the second of Captain Arthur and Barbara Bennett (nee Morrison) of 16 Lord Street, Runcorn.
He died on the same ship as Cpt Charles Edwards and Able Seaman A Haddock.  
Samuel had been at sea for over 2 years, having previously been employed on the ship canal tugs upon which his father was also employed. He was educated at the Parish School and also attended the Bethesda Congregational Church and Sunday school. In his school days he was also associated with the boy scout movement. One of his brothers was also in France for two years with Royal Engineers at the time of his death.
