Oswald was born in Sutton, Macclesfield in 1890. He lived with his father Henry, a silk weaver, and his mother Emma at 1 Norbury Street. He had 2 brothers, Harry & Wallace and 2 sisters, Alice & Ruth. By 1911 his father had died and they were living at 11 Brough Street.
  Oswald married Emily Storey, born in Weymouth, in April 1915. They had a daughter Emma born in Weymouth in 1915. His brother Harry served in the Cheshire Regiment and was killed in action on the 7th February 1915.
  Oswald enlisted in Wrexham. He landed at Zeebrugge, with the battalion, on the 7th October 1914. He saw action during the 1st Battle of Ypres in October 1914, during which time the 1st Battalion virtually ceased to exist. He was also in action at the Battle of Festubert in May 1915. He was killed in action on the 25th November 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial, Richebourg-L'Avoue, Pas De Calais, France.
