Born Monks Coppenhall, Crewe, June 19, 1876. enlisted Dorchester. 
Son of Thomas and Martha Jones of Heaths Cottages, Monks Coppenhall.
Husband of Esther (Hester) Maria Jones (nee Dunne), formerly of 1,
Newdigate Street. A former engine tuber in the Erecting Shop, Crewe
Works. First enlisted at Chester on May 14, 1890. Served during the
Boer War and took part in action at Tugela Heights and the Relief of
Ladysmith. Re-enlisted August 23, 1914 and went to France on
December 18, 1914. The 1911 Census has him and his wife
residing at 50, Peel Street, Crewe, with brother-in-law
Joseph Francis Dunne, who was killed in action in March 1915.
