Samuel's Story.

Samuel was born in Birkenhead in 1895. He lived with his father William, a house painter, and his mother Mary at 36 Sun Street. He had a brother William & 4 sisters, Agnes, Irene, Edna & Elizabeth. They later moved to 270 Claughton Road, Birkenhead.

  Samuel enlisted in Wrexham, originally into the Denbighshire Yeomanry. He was later transferred to the 14th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was awarded the military medal. He was killed in action on the 6th November 1918. He is buried at Englefontaine British Cemetery, Pas De Calais, France. B30. 

  The Battalion war diary for that day:

  Battalion moved forward at 13.15 hours and arrived at Berliamont at about 1700 hours & good billets were found. The factories at U26 & U27, which were on fire, were shelled intermittently during the night. Orders were received to be ready to move at 1 hours notice.
