Born Nantwich, enlisted Crewe. Son of William Henry and Blanche Tomkinson of 3, Cart Lake, Nantwich. Previously employed by the Haighton Clothing Factory of Nantwich, as a seam presser. Enlisted on September 30, 1914. Transferred to the South Lancashire Regiment on October 14, 1914 from the Cheshire Regiment (No.17323). Went to France on September 28, 1915. Died in No.44 Casualty Clearing Station, France. His brother John was killed in action in 1915. CWGC states he died on July 5.
