Son of Mary (or Margaret?) of 92 Westminster Road, Hoole. Brother of Harry, Frances, Cecilia and Mary.

The 6th Battalion was a Pioneer Battalion formed at Brecon on 29th September 1914. In July 1916 they were continuously  employed digging trenches. They were also involved a year later in the battle for Messiness Ridge, including building a bridge for tanks over the River Douve. Wounded on 15th August 1918, taken prisoner, and died in captivity aged 32 on 17th October 1918.
