WELL-KNOWN Y.M.C.A. MEMBER
Killed in Action
Mr. and Mrs. T. Stones, 142, Craven Street, have received official notification of the death in action of their elder son, Corporal William Stones, who was attached to the Cheshire Regt. Corpl. Stones joined the colours in August, 1916, and had only seen two months’ service in France before receiving the fatal wound. Before joining the Army the deceased soldier was employed as manager of the shipping department of the British Margarine Works at Broadgreen. He was a well-known member of the Birkenhead Y.M.C.A., and was closely identified with various athletic clubs of the Association. Mr. and Mrs. Stones have another son who, after serving the colours, is now discharged through wounds he received at the Battle of the Somme last year.
