Born Nantwich, enlisted Chester. Son of W. J. and Mary Purcell originally of 11, Albert Street, Nantwich. Resided with his father in Blackburn. Formerly employed by Messrs. Johnson & Son, Printers of Nantwich. Joined up with his best friend Harry Hope, serving in the same battalion. They would both die on the same day. They both went to France (Le Havre) on November 16, 1915. His brother Walter died of wounds in 1918. He is recorded as EDWARD Purcell on the Nantwich War Memorial.
