Alexander's Story.

  Alexander was born in St Mary's, Stockport in 1882. He lived with his father William & mother Sarah at 26 Read Street, Stockport. He had 2 sisters, Elizabeth & Lily. By 1911 they were living at 138 Turncroft Lane, Stockport.
  Alexander enlisted in Stockport. He was killed in action on the 25th September 1915. He is buried at Cambrin Churchyard Extension, Pas DE Calais, France. H21.

The Battalion war diary for that day:

  At 5.50am moved up in support of the 4th Middlesex Regiment. At 6.40am 4th Middlesex attacked enemy's trenches & suffered severely. Two platoons of B & C Companies advanced to reinforce them & suffered heavy casualties. Owing to this the advance was not proceeded with. 2nd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers took over the 1st & 2nd line trenches from the 1st Middlesex Regiment.
Casualties: 34 killed, 71 wounded, 4 missing.
