Walter's Story.

Walter was born in Grappenhall on 21st April 1888, only son of Elizabeth Maire, they lived with his grandfather Thomas Maire, a day gardener, in Statham, along with his sister Ethel.
His mother later married Joseph Stubbs and the family resided at Massey Brook Lymm. 
He was educated at Lymm Parochial School and in civilian life was employed as a wagoner on a local farm. He enlisted with the Cheshire Regiment at Altrincham in early 1915 and ater finishing his training was posted to the western front.
He died on 13th September 1918 as a prisoner of war and is buried in France.
