Sergt. Geo. Ellis M.M.

Sergeant George Ellis of the Wirral Battalion of the Cheshires, and eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Ellis, 163, Beckwith Street, Birkenhead, has had a praiseworthy career since joining the Army a month after the outbreak of war. He went to France sixteen months ago, and has been twice wounded. He was promoted to sergeant on the field, and his success in military affairs was crowned on Oct 21st, when he won for himself distinction and was presented with the Military Medal. He had taken a host of prisoners, and tried to take in a German field gun, but being unable to do so, stamped the name of the Cheshires on the machine. He was home on leave for seven days, but on the day that he ought to have returned he took ill with trench fever, and is now in hospital.

Prior to joining the Army Sergeant Ellis was in the perfumery department at Port Sunlight.
