George's Story.
Birkenhead News 08 March 1919DIED FROM PNEUMONIA.
The official intimation has been received from the War Office by Mr. and Mrs. Beckingham that their son, Pte. George Beckingham (R.A.M.C.) has succumbed to bronchial pneumonia following on influenza, at the 42 Stationary Hospital, Wimereaux, France. He joined the Army some 3 ½ years ago, and was for a considerable time in France. He was home on leave in February, and only returned to France for demobilisation three weeks ago, contacting influenza on his way back, which resulted in his death. He was a native of New Ferry, a member of the Wesleyan Church, and had worked in the Oil Mill at Port Sunlight for many years.
One of the many young men of New Ferry who have given their lives that we may have the “material advantages” of liberty and a happy life, that we should have the right to shape our destiny not to the unenlightened pattern of German tyranny but in accord with our temperament, habits and traditions.
Much sympathy will be felt for his father, mother, and their family by his numerous friends.
