George William's Story.

Born Crewe, enlisted London. His mother and wife resided at 69, Oakley Street, Crewe. Former pupil at Edleston Road, Mill Street and Crewe Secondary Schools. Prior to enlisting was a schoolteacher at Hightown LNWR Boys School. At the Front, he served as a chemist (3rd Bn. Special Brigade was formed for gas deployment) and was also commended for his excellent work in the front line dressing stations. Reportedly the first known Crewe school teacher to lose his life in the war.
